Overview

Inverse trigonometric functions are the inverse of trigonometric functions, used to find the angle from a known trigonometric value.

  • asin (arcsin): Find angle from sine value, input range [-1, 1], output range [-90°, 90°]
  • acos (arccos): Find angle from cosine value, input range [-1, 1], output range [0°, 180°]
  • atan (arctan): Find angle from tangent value, input any real number, output range [-90°, 90°]

Syntax

asin(value) // Calculate arcsine, returns angle
acos(value) // Calculate arccosine, returns angle
atan(value) // Calculate arctangent, returns angle

The angle unit of the result depends on the current mode (DEG returns degrees, RAD returns radians)

Examples

Example 1: Calculate arcsin(0.5)
Mode: DEG
Input: asin(0.5)
Result: 30
Because sin(30°) = 0.5
Example 2: Calculate arccos(0.5)
Mode: DEG
Input: acos(0.5)
Result: 60
Because cos(60°) = 0.5
Example 3: Calculate arctan(1)
Mode: DEG
Input: atan(1)
Result: 45
Because tan(45°) = 1
Example 4: Radian mode calculation
Mode: RAD
Input: asin(1)
Result: 1.570796... (π/2)

Important Notes

  1. Input values for asin and acos must be in range [-1, 1], otherwise returns error
  2. atan can accept any real number input
  3. Results may have multiple valid angles, calculator returns principal value
  4. Remember to switch angle mode for different unit results
